A bountiful 4-CD treasure trove of Rimsky-Korsakov, beautifully played and in brilliant BIS sound. And don't be fooled by the relative obscurity of the orchestra. This is an amazing ensemble of masterful musicians recruited from around the world, and this collection has received rave reviews from BOTH the Penguin Guide and ClassicsToday.com, who don't often agree.
AND, the Musical Heritage Society edition is currently available brand-spankin'-new from several Amazon Marketplace sellers for the ridiculously low price of $8.94:

Anyone would be CRAZY not to pick this up!
I have the individual issues, and both the performances and the engineering are super. I was very surprised, given that the orchestra was way below my radar before I obtained these recordings.
Many many thanks for the heads up. Even without the URL,I had no difficulty finding this set on Amazon and have just ordered a copy. I am greatly looking forward to leaning back in my sweet-spot chair, closing my eyes, and immersing myself in Rimsky's Romanticism.
bargain price is secondary to finding an outstanding performance and MCH recording of this spectacular piece. Let us know what you think of this when you play it.
I really do not understand why one would restrict himself to SACD's or multi channels, surely the performances comes first.
I do have the Reiner SACD and although the sound has lots of presence I find the performance boring. And to be honest I am more interested in the other works included in this 4 cd's set than Sheherazade.
I just heard it too many times.

Completely agreed. However, I have multiple recordings of this piece on LP and CD and, although I won't list them, they are musically satisfying (as suitable for this piece).
OTOH, what is lacking is a decent multichannel recording and, if you must know, that is important (although secondary) to me.
