Satie thanks again for reply. I'm kinda lost now. If I go with the Ashley {wich I heard works well with maggies ] would you be able to upgrade it? Doing electronic work is way above my pay grade. If you don't want to do you know where I can have it done. Is it stero or mono? Will I still have to use the xo1?I'm sold on the Dayton rs 1202k.The only thing I would like the crossover to have the ability to ad a another Dayton in the future.
I think you have many options for a more fixed freq device like a Marchand or a discrete freq and slope switching one like the B4 that would cover your needs. I needed the Ashly and Rane because I am constantly experimenting so I wanted a continuously variable one..
The B4 is a 2 way crossover and you can daisy chain them if you need a 3 way for a sub and biamping the 3.5.
For your current issue of a sub XO, the built in low pass should serve you well, you can start with the internal crossover on the subwoofer and once you have a favored frequency then move on to select the high pass configuration and frequency you want.
For the final high pass to the bass panels I still think you should just use an in line capacitor at line level. That is something I can do, it is really simple. You could probably do it easily enough. Many of us have built them.
You probably don't need something like the Ashly. Besides, I don't know if I can do soldering work yet. Still getting used to the new glasses after the cataract operations, have not done significant soldering in a couple of years. Most independent pro audio repair shops can handle the revival of the Ashly.. I am sure you have one close enough to you.
Satie thanks again for reply. Do you think I can get by with my XO-1 crossover with the mirage lfx-1 for know?
You can use the IFX-1 for the sub and to high pass the speakers, then feed the speaker output to the XO-1 and use it as you have before. Likely to sound better than the internal crossover inside the subwoofer amp.
If I use Lfx1 andXO1 will It also help sound quality to go for a amp like a Bryston 4 b and make my own passive dipole sub.I am not looking for 1000 w of ground pounding bass just to fill in lower rang accurately.
The requirements that let you fill in the bottom octave at all: i..e large diaphragm, powerful drive etc, also provide the capacity to play louder. If you go to an OB you will have a 1kw servo amp with eq driving the woofers, OB subs need EQ. If you already have a powerful amp at hand then just order the kit components without the plate amp and use the amp you have and your Mirage XO. You can call up PE and ask about getting the kit discount without the plate amp.
