Recently purchased a set of Magneoan 1.7s and enjoying their sound however in the near future will have to find a way hanging these at a reasonable height to avoid a couple of dogs bumping into these ( getting
hitched and she has a couple of medium sized pups ). I know the placement can be an issue as well but thinking either some attachment to the bases that are tied to ceiling joists or maybe even tall tables or stands. Back wall support could work but need some good rear area behing these. Has anyone attempted this ?Thanks in advance.

I have 2 Great Pyrenees who use the media room for play time -- and play time for them is pretty rough. When not listening to the stereo, I simply put the speakers about 18" from the rear wall and out of their way. No issues in the 3 years I've had my 1.7s.

why not get something like this to block the dogs off ?
better than hanging the speakers
If it were me knowing what I know regarding Maggies I'd avoid the strange fruit approach. I'd personally hang them on the wall (now hear me out....!); I'd get a 2x4 the length of the panel, and secure it to a stud (predetermined position) along the rear wall via a piano hinge. Next I'd secure a separate piano hinge along the edge of the Maggie. This would allow at least a 2" separation from the wall when you 'swing' the Maggie away from the wall (picture two Maggie 'wings' adorning your wall). This of course isn't for everyone but once they're closed against the wall the WAF soars.
You can just use Grant's Mye stands to get stability and rigidity. improves SQ and prevents every dog short of a Dane sized monster from knocking it over.
Yes, a pair of stands will help stability. Don't forget to assert dominance and pee on them first.
Good one. Yes they are nice dogs but big in size and unaware of their actions. Had at one time a Thorenz turntable eaten by a girlfriends dog.
It was quite an experience...

mine would stand proudly in the middle of the room surrounded by plastic bits and the number squares from the remote he just ate. About a dozen till he grew out of it.
My Rotti was no more attracted to any of my Maggies than he was to a chair standing in the room. I suppose they didn't smell like anything that interested him, were too big to turn them into a toy, plus he was smart enough to not want them to topple over and hit him on his head.
(Rotties are known as not being one of the smartest of breeds.)
Many years ago I picked up a used pair of SMGs. They had eye-hooks screwed into the top rail so obviously a previous owner hung them. I never tried it (no need).
Also, way back (try Mr Peabody's Wayback Machine) in disco days I remember reading about one dance club that suspended several pairs of Maggies from the ceiling, parallel to the floor. Guess the intent was to "immerse" the dancers in the sound. ;^)
It can be done but are the dogs really that rambunctious?

Suspending Maggie's is an excellent option. But you don't need to do anything at the base.
Attach some extended screws high up on the speakers, some screw-eyes in your ceiling, and use some poly line to suspend them. They will hang pendulum style and be absolutely still unless something/someone brushes by them.....or you have an earthquake.
Dave.
I'd be just as careful of them urinating on the speakers being in a new territory for them.
That said, how about getting/making a collar for around them (the speakers, not the dogs)? Sort of like a ring that would be around their shoulder height, maybe a bit lower.
It would be hard to position the speakers & get the toe in angle the same on each one if they were hanging.Could you build DIY stands?
