Try Hypex UcD or NCore. Sounds tube-like except better than the best tube amps. Also much less heat and cost, in most cases.

We most certainly hear the reproduction of live, unamplifed music quite differently. :)
A bold claim! ;-))
I have a 800w Hypex plate amp on each of my subs ... but I wouldn't use them anywhere else.

I think you may find the plate amps don't sound much like their UcD or NCore modules.
When I had my 1.6QR Maggies the best amp I ever had on them was a MR RM200. Then, I replaced it with UcD180 (AD) and it was a revelation. The Hypex amps had the midrange clarity of the RM200 but everything else was even better.
I'm still using UcD amps to this day.
If I'm not mistaken, Peter Gunn is a big fan of class D amps.
I don't think he is, but I am.
Or at least I don't hear enormous differences between amplifiers, but there is a pretty large mass & heat difference in favor of class D.
I now run a NAD M22 with Magnepan 3.6's.
Peter Gunn absolutely is a fan of D-Sonic Class D amps, it was at his recommendation that I auditioned my D-Sonic amp.

I use my system to listen to music. I don't use music to listen to my system...
Magnepan MMG's & MMGC, BA a100 Series 3, Yamaha RX-V667 A/V & Pre,Cambridge Audio 551P, Emotiva XPA-3,Sansui SR-313,Apple TV

Indeed. I use a Crown switcher in the garage system where the amp resides in a closet.
It is decidedly less extended and dimensional at the top end than the NAD integrated it replaced, but offers lots of cheap watts and runs cool.
