I said "semi", and you are right, he said it sounds great with CDs. But did he really try a good active preamp? Most of the dacs driving the amp I tried were good (nto great), but I have never heard a computer driving the amp that was anything but mediocre. ETs deserve way better.

Follow Ups:
He hasn't elaborated enough about his setup for us to make any conclusions regards the capabilities of his DAC's. Maybe he has a decent external DAC from his laptop???
Anyways, I've seen plenty of active preamps that have inferior driving capability relative to some Brand X DAC. There isn't anything inherently superior about one or the other in this aspect.
There is way too much prognostication from facts unknown going on in this thread. :) Which could be said for any thread Satie participates in actually. :)
Cheers,
Dave.
Yup Davey, I checked out Atkinson's test specs before buying the RM200. I won't buy electronics that don't test well on the bench, no matter how good they are supposed to sound. If an amp measures poorly (in ways that count) but sounds "good", something is seriously wrong somewhere.
