I'm totally getting blown away by these GMMGs....it's as if they're built for this room because the upper-midrange is absolutely killing my 20s right now...

I had a similar experience when I compared my Quasi-Gunned MMG's to my, then stock, MG-2.5's. The clarity and definition in the mids of the modded MMG's simply spanked the MG-2.5's. I knew right away I'd have to tweak the x-o, Razor the panels and add bracing. But dang , Q-Gunned MMG's sure kill it in the mids.
When Pete told me these would just as good -or better than my MG1.6s I kind of wrote it off as good sales talk (I mean let's face it, my 1.6s were my babies!). But, I gotta tell you they're up there, and I mean wow...Well I decided to give my 20s a rest and finally have a serious talk with my Gunned MMGs. I hooked them up to my 75lb Emotiva 1000 watt, high current mono battle ships and they simply opened up like a wind hitting a ship's sail.
I have a pair of ICEpowered modules I was supposed to get to this weekend but I haven't even touched em', too busy listening to good music lol..
note: I hope this doesn't sound too much like an add, and no this isn't a 'primer post' in anticipation of selling any audio gear although I am planning a Maggie day some time in mid-late June if anyone is interested in hearing these.

Is it clarity you are talking about? If so you can "razor" the mids and bass panels with CLD damping strips and get rid of much of the magnetboard ringing - which is what I think Gunn's bracing work is all about.
Better caps in the internal XO will also go far in helping there.
But the tricky thing is moving the mid/tweet XO up by 1/2 to 1 octave and going to 1st order
The MMG crossover frequency is not appreciably different (not even close to a half octave) with the Magnestand version. The change is in the turnover frequency of the filters and the different summing action created by that configuration.
The reason everyone raves about the mid-range of the Magnestand crossover is because that's where all the change is implemented. There's nothing magic about it. It's just a significant change to the crossover alignment. The newer MMG's seem to have moved in that direction as well. But I've yet to see a confirmed crossover schematic for those.
Dave.

I was not talking about changing the XO in the MG20 to that of the PG MMG, I was talking about moving it up to relieve the tweeter of some output duties below 4khz where I think it can be overwhelmed by even not very loud playback levels, particularly with low order XO slopes..
Sorry, I thought you were referring to MMG's with your comments.
If you're talking MG20 true ribbon tweeters, that's a completely different topic.
Dave.
I had gunned 1.6's for some time, but I wasn't as thrilled with the crossover in particular. I heard some frequency response anomalies which made violins sound less realistic and noticably asymmetrical horizontal dispersion. Perhaps it works better on the MMGs, as everybody seems to like those? The midbass was very toe-tappingly good, and "danced" more than the 3.6's I use now.
I might join on planar day in SD I think.

with my 20s, no way I'm tackling that task. I've got the MMGs running along side a single REL Strata which is handling the bottom feed; pure bliss, my goodness...
