Yes. I do have a big 8x10 rug that is about 1" thick. Thinking about ceiling and looking at a suspended ceiling with a lot of variation for diffusive properties and looks. Thinking that this mix might bring things together. It isn't cheap - but it is something I'll be living with for quite sometime. I also have 4 4" gik absorption panels that I can bring in if needed.
I will have the speakers 11' off front wall. Do u think the material on the front wall is important given that distance? I can do drywall or stacked stone. There is no glass

Being a cheapskate and not having enough headroom for a dropped ceiling I used a flush mount kit with regular acoustic tile. Fixed much of the room's liveliness. I would say go for it on a more elaborately engineered ceiling tile if it fits in your budget.
Drop ceilings typically suck up bass.

I did not have that experience with the flush mount ceiling but then it was such a long time ago. On the other hand, I do need to go to rather extreme lengths to get solid deep bass with some power behind it. To get the bottom octave filled out I use wall loading and a face forwards positioning of the bass panels to uniquely capture the long dimension's resonance freq and the room's tangential mode. That way the 25-40 hz range is elevated and response is quite substantial even below that.
So I was looking at ceilings today and the one I saw online looks like a coffered ceiling (all the squares are recessed by about 2.5" to give a dimensional look)... They are actually made of a pvc - flexible ... But not the fiberboard I am used to with ceilings. So I was thinking of roxul or fiberglass in the ceiling. What do you guys think of that? I think the dimensionality would help the sound - but I am unsure of the thin pvc product it is made of. But then wonder if the fiberglass or roxul would off set that.
Opinions??
If these tiles are not designed for acoustic performance then you can't predict what it will do for sound. The pvc itself would be reflective as opposed to the fiberboard which is absorptive. I would not use them.
Thanks Satie. I definitely take your advice seriously. I was hesitant as well and wanted others opinions. It looks cool. Is expensive. But wondered if the material made it a non starter
