Return to Planar Speaker Asylum

Thinking of moving from some ET LFT VIII's to some Maggie 1.7's. Just curious as to opinions on the later. Soundstage and required sub if needed. What are some honest opinions...
Thanks in advance

I think you'll like the bass and bass integration better with the 1.7's, but for me, the ET is a more transparent speaker through the rest of the range.
If keeping the ET's, I would recommend a bass filter modification as I mentioned a month or so ago.
Cheers,
Dave.
I think you lose some LFT8 detail and punch to gain 1.7 coherence and possibly extension.
Davey's XO mod really removes that woofer resonance off the FR plots - you might want to do that and then think about whether a 1.7 is really a step up for you.
My 1.7's lean back.I read that it may be better to have them leaning forward. Is that the case?If they are leaning back,do I have the feet mounted properly?
I prefer maggies straight up vertical.
if your legs are wobbly then you need to figure out how to tighten them up. Mye stands are a very worthwhile upgrade for all maggies and they tighten up the bass and the speaker as a whole and. clear up the mids.
The feet are solid.I'm not sure if they are made to have the 1.7 lean back.
Likely not the intention. Shim them to dead vertical and steady.
The feet on my almost 30 year old IIIa's are still solid and the speakers stand absolutely perfectly erect, while the 3.7's were wobbly from day one. These newer speakers are incapable of standing straight up on carpet without placing spacers of some type under the rear feet (I would guess one leans about one inch back and the other even more). I suspect the newer round bottoms solve the problem.
And yes, I will upgrade to Mye stands one of these days...
Had them for 5 years now; still exhilarating. Spatial representation excellent, especially for organ , voice and jazz. They do require power and care in set up.
