It can be subtle, forex the midrange on my MMG's was rattling because the Mylar came unstuck from the double-sided tape behind it (the newer models, like the MMG use the hold downs instead). The source of the rattle won't necessarily be visible because it only requires a tiny separation to cause one. You could try gently pressing your finger on the diaphragm where the rattle is coming from to see what happens.
If the source of the rattle doesn't become obvious, e.g., something internal, I suggest that you give Magnepan a call. They can help you troubleshoot on the phone and if it isn't something you can fix, you can get a quote on a repair, chances are it's cheaper to repair the speaker than to buy new ones.

So if I have the speaker on its back and I am looking at the wires, they seem to be in good repairs without any breaks or cracks. The wires appear to be fastened onto the mylar well but it looks like the wires are not fixed to the mylar in behind? Does that make sense?
The wires are only on the front of the Mylar. Behind the Mylar are magnet strips which are stuck to the perforated metal that you see from the rear. If one of those came loose in shipment so that it was too close to the diaphragm, that could presumably cause buzzing -- but it's probably something that Magnepan would have to fix since you can't get to it.
Thanks for all the advice, I am slowly learning more about this process. The speaker are older, not sure of the vintage. I will try to contact Magnepan tomorrow and see if they can walk me through the diagnostics.
Has anyone seen a good video online about the repair process, i have seen a couple but they were badly done.
Alan
