....not only would the maggies need to be far into your room, as others have mentioned, Maggies don't do well in a room that is asymmetric as this can shift the center image considerably. Think carefully before putting maggies in this kind of space. Ideally, you could get a pair for a home trial; that's the only way to know for sure if they will work to your liking.

Satie,
Side note. As a 3.7i owner I am extremely reluctant to endorse the most recent iteration of Magnepan panels in a configuration which does not involve toe in. I think whatever they did to the crossover made it so that the new speaker is extremely sensitive to the relative distance of the mid and tweet. Indeed, I can hear the tweeter and Maggie grain artifacts if it is not aimed almost dead on directly at my ear. This matches up with Wendell's comments on setting up the newer speaker, and avoiding settings parallel to FW.
My IIIa's can work in textbook Limage. But I get much better sound with toe in on the i's (experimenting in three different rooms).
One man's experience.....
I suspected as much, but I found that it works in some setups as in MarkMan's setup but not in others. I have no idea why it does work for him and not for you. I don't know what the specific item is that makes the difference.
