Bypass the crossover to see if that is causing the trouble.

I found the error of my ways, kinda. I took a picture of the wires before I started the process. After the rewire I soldered things back in the order (or so I though) in my picture. I ended up cutting through the sock on the good Maggi (I'm buying new socks anyway) and notices things in a quite different order. After some work I duplicated the working speaker. I now have high frequency in the tweeter! It is however a bit lower in level than the other. Could this be a break-in thing and the high end will become better after things get settled in?
Obtained the schematics from Magnepan for the MG1 and followed them to reconnect all wires. Seems to have helped a bit. I'm having them ship me new old-stock x-over and caps since after all my trial and error of soldering has made the connections too short to get into the speaker cleanly. I'll follow up when I put all the new parts in and let you guys know if anything helped improve the quality of the repaired speaker!
Roger Gustavsson suggested you apply your audio signal directly to the tweeters. This is good advice. Do this with both of your MG-1 and compare left versus right. This way you can see if your tweeter rewire is the culprit.
