You apparently changed 2 things at once. So, unless you alter your position / setup back to original you might not know what produced the improvement.
This while leaving the NEW stands installed.
OR
you could go back to the OLD stands and the NEW setup?

Follow Ups:
I changed 2 things:
a) changing slabs of 1.5" thick wood to which my braced panel-supports were bolted to, to steel bases shaped in a 'U', and
b) flattening the angle of my mid/tweeter panels (so that they no longer point at my ears).
I believe a) couldn't possibly have caused the increase in sound stage width - so that means it must've been caused by b). But feel free to think otherwise. ;-)) I've thrown away the wood bases so I can't "go back", in any case.

Andy
Based on your description, the DRIVERS are still in the original material? MDF or whatever?
I think you are right, but the Scientific Method would want you to change ONE THING at a time. At least for ME, that's the only way I've been able to keep cause and effect straight. And find the 'path forward', such as it is.

They've been in hardwood frames from when I put together my 'Frankenpans', about 6 years ago.
