There's a wee bit a difference between a $4400 top of the line integrated amp (the Marantz) and a craigslist find.
Though the old one also appears to have been once the high-end part of its range in its time.
Follow Ups:
Most would consider the Marantz under powered at 100wpc (200wpc into 4 ohms) and it definitely is not, at least, in a small room with a near field setup. In fact, the bass output surprised me - very, very solid (the best I've ever heard out of a pair of Maggies). Yes, the Marantz is a fine piece of kit, but it's still 'small' by conventional reasoning (at least, from what I've read in this and another forum).
In the pursuit of planar JBLs a 100 watt amp and maggies will not get you there.
A line array of Neo8 or Dayton AMTPRO-4 and even a SET will get you there on the mids and treble.
