Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
24.30.72.9
Hello,
Could someone who owns Eminent Technology ET-8 speakers, preferably 8b's post some pictures of their tweeters up close?
I'd like to see the whole tweeter and a closeup if you have any wrinkles.
I'm looking to see how flat and smooth they might be.
Would help me out allot.
Reason why: Is I'm looking at a pair of 8b's that have some wrinkles/twists in them.
I am used to Apoggee and Magnepan which of course do not have any wrinkles/twists in them.
Thanks

I own 8Bs, the surface area is not what I could call smooth as glass but nothing like what you have posted either, deeply creased. If they are used, I would be a bit suspect and pass, if new I would trust the fact that Bruce Thigpen would never send out a production in less than perfect working order. Speaking of which, if you have a concern, just give them la call over at ET.
Thanks everyone so far for your pictures and comments. I don't have a phone number for Bruce T. I want to ask him the cost of new tweeters or rebuild; since the frame and magnets are all fine. Does anyone know the cost of tweeter ribbon/foil repair/replace ?
Bill
In conversation with Bruce Thigpen when reviewing the LFT-8A/B he said that the wrinkles in the tweeter are common and not a problem. However, the mid/bass panel is to be taut.
Further, in some older models such as the LFT-VI, which I own, there are small fractures in the aluminum foil laid upon the mylar. He said these were not a problem either, and there is no sonic degradation that I can detect. The LFT-VI has a means of re-tensioning the mylar, but I have not done so often for fear of causing additional breaks in the aluminum foil conductors.
The greatest impediment to advancing an audiophile system is the audiophile.
Wrinkle are WNL. Mine were ordered new and have wrinkles. See photo.
Thanks,
Morris

Maggies indeed have wrinkle(s); in fact many are shipped with said 'beauty marks'. However this doesn't appear to affect it's glorious sound.
I would suspect the same for the ETs.
Anyone out there who can take photo of thier LFT 8b tweeter for me ?
This is what the 8b tweeters I am looking look like:
the VIIIb are not supposed to have wrinkles in the diaphragm either
