Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
68.224.138.2
I am looking to fire them up after 15yrs or so. They use to have an inline fuse holder on the tweeter( the remains are there), what fuse should I be using? I am also looking for a good but cheap(1k or less) preamp suggestions?

I own some T 1-D's, a later version, as I have the original receipt. Mine were purchased on 10/13/78 and I am the second owner. Mine is like the picture Roger posted. They are awesome speakers and especially the bass panels. IMHO the bass panels are superb and stand in a category of their own. I guess when they are still being sought after at near or over the original price of $1395 in 78, that speaks volumes for them. Mine have been all factory rebuilt and later the Miloxane panels resealed by me with 3M 30 NF which will last much longer. You have a great pair of Maggies and i am sure you will be glad you resurrected them. I am presently tri-amping mine using just the bass panels. See my post here about the passive/active crossovers. Good luck with them!!
I read your crossover thread and to tell the truth I didn't understand most of it... I went to the Audiogon site to look for the crossover someone mentions in the thread and my goodness,,,, can't believe the prices of things.... getting old I guess....

Normal-Blow, 2½ Amp.
Is there any kind of voltage for these? 120/240? The one I have says 240V. I don't know if a 120V will work.

I agree about the prices. I think much of it is due to the number of hands that are in the pie. From mfg. to distributor to retailer. Depending on the product. Everyone gets a cut, so by the time we buy it well...
As to the 240 Volt you have, are you overseas or in the states? I assume you are not in the states? Or is it a piece of equipment meant to be used abroad? What kind of plug does it have?
I was talking about the fuse I have that was in the fuse holder that survived, it says AGC 2 1/2 250V, 1/4"dia 1 1/4" long. I was wondering what your fuse was. I live in Vegas now, use to live in Columbus OH and now I miss it as i knew where the good audio shops were.

OOPs! Sorry :) I pulled my fuse and it reads "250V 2 1/2 A" Hope that helps, not sure what the 250V means, perhaps someone else could shed some light on that.
It means it's for a 250 Volt circuit.. thanks for the info...

My back panel

That is an old one, at least before 1975 or so. My Tympani from 1975 looks like that.

Thanks. This doesn't look like the back of mine, I have no fuse holder, have to use a inline, which I am having trouble locating, now I can start the hunt for the fuses as well.
