Loved your post on the MMG's. As soon as I can swing it I will get a pair for my living room and use a sub for the low end. I love bass as well.
I am searching for better amps for my custom IIIa "Frankenpans" as I am now using a ADA PF-200 for the mids and an RMB 1077 multi channel amp for the tweeters, and no longer have a need for multi channel as I do not do surround anymore. I do not have a large budget as I am also going to do some mods for my DCX2496. There are a couple of Kenwood L07M mono blocks and a Carver Sunfire Carver Sunfire 300 Load Invariant High Fidelity Stereo Power Amp. For now I want to replace the Rotel and then follow up with a replacement for the ADA or perhaps use it for the IIIa bass which is not used now as I have T 1-D's for bass. What to you think of the Carver? Do you have any experience with the Kenwoods?

Unfortunately I have no experience with the Kenwoods. I can say however that I do like the Sunfire Load Invariant. I had one before I upgraded to my Signature. The Sig is basically the same design with double the wattage, so while it is 600w @ 8ohms, the Load Invariant would be 300w at 8ohms. One reason I love the Sunfires is that they are actually bench tested to double wattage as resistance is halved, the mark of a true high current amp. So 600w @ 4ohms should be plenty on your bass section.
The question is really if you like the sonic signature of the amp. I don't buy into the theory that all amps sound the same if done correctly... They definitely have a sound to them and that is just fine. Just as Krells are known to take hold of the bass, and Pass Labs sound sweeter on the highs, etc. Remember, the Sunfire is basically a class AB with rail switching, so don't expect a class A sound. But it is plenty powerful, and should do great on the bass section only. I run mine full range, and like the sort of laid back sound it creates for the high end while being very forceful on the bass.
Actually I was thinking more of using the Carver for the mids as I failed to mention I have a Crest CC5500 @ 1800 watts per side which the Tympani;s sound great with. I owned a 400 watt cube in the past with a Carver preamp and thought that had a decent sound, not the best, but decent. How might this compare with the cube?
The Sunfires are much better sounding than the earlier Carver offerings, many of which I have used; the Sunfires are more refined and forceful. That being said, I still find them to have a similar sonic signature, which is on the warmer side of neutral.
