That's a great point. Thank you. So the simplest "solution" would be to just reverse the +/- leads to the drivers?
If so, that means it would have been uber simple for Magnepan to do that too. But they didn't. So that implies that the phase mis-alignment between drivers is not the outcome of some design compromise, but indeed a design goal. Which kind of underscores your earlier point.
But it also means that if I prefer tighter imaging over smooth transition between drivers, it's an easy change. Thanks.
BTW - I removed the post plate and don't THINK it's possible from there. But will have to give it a closer look.

You're getting yourself all turned around and confused by listening to silly "solutions."
The reverse polarity connection fixes the phase mis-alignment, it doesn't cause it. If the "solution" were just so simple as reversing the leads, don't you think Magnepan would have already done this?
I suggest to step back, take a deep breath and not do anything to your speakers until you better understand the issues here.
Cheers,
Dave.
Davey - first, fear not. I don't EVER go messing with stuff I don't understand. So understanding (to a reasonable extent) will come before I make any change. To do otherwise is - IMO - foolhardy. But this discussion process is part of the process of gaining that understanding.
And I think you missed my point anyway...
I get the fact that Magnepan planned this. So any change is not a "fix". It's a change to what Magnepan intended. So were I to reverse the polarity of some drivers, it would be diametrically opposed to what the designers intended. And if unclestu is correct, the consequence would be a less seamless transition between drivers.
Polarity reversal of the driver would result in something like a 15db suck-out in amplitude about two octaves above and below the acoustic crossover point. Whether or not you would find the altered results desirable is a question that you'd be better prepared to answer if you listened to them in this modified form.
OTOH, your playback of "ticks" might sound more realistic. Assuming you listen to more music than old, crusty LP's, you'd probably be best served by leaving your speakers as Magnepan designed them.
