The relationship in phase between the low part of the panel and the mid/tweet changes the direction of the lobe. Think 'phased array'

It changes more than the direction of the lobe, it also changes the designed free-field response of the speaker.Anyways, this is certainly not a phased-array configuration. I suggest to read up on those.

The reason I even mentioned phased array is by varying phase, the beam is steered.
Same with panels. It is a gross change to swap phase and yes, other things will change. Especially on panels where ALL the 'ways' share one sheet of mylar.
I'm less clear about the effects when the highs are ribbon.
