+90 or -90 on the tweeter doesn't change its response at all......it changes the integration with the woofer.
Even though the electrical networks are second-order/low-pass and first-order/high-pass, that's not what the acoustic crossover is. It's actually fairly symmetrical with second-order slopes. That explains the woofer/tweeter polarity reversal in the 1.6 configuration.
Hope that's clear.
Cheers,
Dave.
Follow Ups:
The relationship in phase between the low part of the panel and the mid/tweet changes the direction of the lobe. Think 'phased array'
Too much is never enough
I'm well aware of how it works, thank you.
It changes more than the direction of the lobe, it also changes the designed free-field response of the speaker.Anyways, this is certainly not a phased-array configuration. I suggest to read up on those.
Dave.

The reason I even mentioned phased array is by varying phase, the beam is steered.
Same with panels. It is a gross change to swap phase and yes, other things will change. Especially on panels where ALL the 'ways' share one sheet of mylar.
I'm less clear about the effects when the highs are ribbon.
