interesting- do they rely on refection from the ceiling? A more complicated thing, I would be curious to know how the sound from the top works, if it is that far above the ears. Is it bass? A friend of mine has rebulit quad esl 57's (will post a pic in a coiple of weeks )that are tall, but not as tall as this, with panels aranged vertically, bass at top and bottom. Very nice indeed.
Do you think they would work in a small room?
Cheers
Steve
*' is the standar here too since the 50's, I wasn't sure about the US but thought it would too

THis means very little floor or ceiling reflections.
As Duke said, the particular model you linked to is full range. There is no bass, mid, treble sections. There is no crossover at all. The entirety of the panels produce 100% of the frequencies. It makes for a very seamless, coherent presentation. If the height of them is an issue for you, maybe look for a Model 3 or Model 4. They are roughly half the height as the panels are side by side rather than stacked one atop the other. The stacked design, in part, was meant to address a lack of vertical image height. The sound of the Model 3 and 4 is quite different from a standing to sitting position. The stacked designs do not have that issue, but are more left/right rather than up/down listening position sensitive. Stats in general are quite directional in nature. There are other designs out there, Soundlab for example, that have a better dispersion patterns achieved by curving the diaphragm. In terms of durability and bang for the buck, it's hard to beat Acoustats.
They radiate sound from the front and the rear. They do not radiate from the sides or the top or bottom. The sound is not divided into bass or midrange or treble sections. The sound is the same across the entire panel.
