The new class D (proprietary Crown circuits) amps from Crown are not supposed to have the old bright thin bare top end that was the hallmark of Crown and Bryston sound up into the 90s. Quite a few people use them with maggies without complaint, some are exuberant about the results.
For cheap ample power that does not sound bad and for on board adjustability I can't fault them. For high end audiophile quality expect to add a significant digit to the price for the same power performance. If you are using them for bass duties in a bi/multi amp situation, I would not hesitate to recommend them. I am using a linear Crown amp for the bass panels of my T IV/Neo8 with results that even impressed a Focal Nova Utopia owner (yes, the ones with the mini fridge bass units),
Follow Ups:
Mel Schilling of 'Music and Sound' sold Magnepan IIIAs along with a pair of Crown DC300A to drive them to my one-time buddy. From his qualifications described below it appears that he knew what he was doing.

"Music and Sound pioneered the US introduction of such acclaimed brands as Audio Research (first US dealer), B&W (first US dealer), Magnepan (first US dealer), Infinity (first East Coast dealer), Nakamichi, Linn, and Polk, among others. Music and Sound established the concept of high-end audio and video to thousands of consumers across the country and the world, who in turn passed their newfound love, appreciation, and knowledge of high-end audio/video down to successive generations who now fuel the digital revolution."
I have the Crown Class D XLS2000, and it sounds nice. I have run Acoustats on them and was surprised...lots of power....not yet tried them on my MG20.1, as I am quite happy with my Icepower 1000ASP/500ASP driving them...
The XLS2000 was quite inexpensive, and weighs like 10 pounds. I also like that they have an internal active crossover....want to see what they can do on my Scintilla bass panels....someday I will get to refurbing them...
I VOID WARRANTIES
I am surprised by how cheaply the high power class D amps can be made by large companies like Crown. Unfortunately my Macrotech series amp (5002vz) was not not cheap, I was just lucky to stumble on a good deal when a local production company had to liquidate the equipment for a cancelled concert tour.
Yours was actually one of the examples I was citing. If you do the XLS2000 on your 20.1 please tell us what you find. I am surprised that the Acoustat didn't have a thing or two to tell about the crown.
