I meant the foam egg-crate style treatment, not actual egg-crates.

Yes, I know you were referring to foam egg-crates - it changes nothing. The absorption of sound at low frequencies requires a very thick and very dense material. Complete rear wave absorption below ~250 Hz is not feasible even with high density foam.
