No doubt that replacing the internal wire is a good idea. However a plain copper wire jumper is still better than steel. There is some inconsistency in your post-- if you got an improvement by by-passing the jumper and fuse then the internal wire should not negate the effect of a copper jumper.
Follow Ups:
I think the biggest improvement comes from bypassing the fuse and holder - though I have not tried each individually since bypassing them both is an easier mod. The point I am trying to make with the jumper is it becomes an non issue with the mod as the whole contraption is bypassed.
Hi. Willcycle;
Speaking of bypassing:
If you are happy with your current speaker cables, why not bypass the stock binding posts and lose the stock hook-up wire, as other inmates have done. (pic is from the archives).

If that actually is "the biggest improvement", it makes me even more happy listening to stock (unmodified) Maggies; (Tympani IV-As, 3.6Rs and MMGs). ;-)
(However in your profile, you only show listening to: "Modified Apogee Diva with modified DAX crossover", so I really don't know which Maggie model your fuse/holder bypass refers to.)
As I stated in an earlier post, my MMG's (I use them in a second bedroom system).
Sorry, I missed seeing that.
My MMG'S are due for delivery tomorrow, after some burn in time
i was going to add a pair of these.

I like the copper foil but the soldered on ends are a bit suspect and $50 seems a bit high to me and Sharpie directional arrows is just ludicrous. If you want to go high-tech you could buy one foot of 6N 12AWG copper wire for $9.00 from PartsConnexion. Personally I think that's a bit overkill too but not excessively priced.
Congratulations on your MMG's and welcome to the Planar Forum. Lot's of fun and good listening ahead.
