silver end caps are also cosmetic. I doubt they would have any influence on the sound

believe the metal sides are thin aluminum and cannot offer much support. The Mye stands are heavy steel

The metal looking siderails are not solid, just aluminiumwrapped MDF. Neither the metalwrapped or the solid wood rails are very good in stiffening the baffles. You need to do a lot more and it will all end the warranty of Magnepan.
The rails I've seen are aluminum extrusions. They would offer some additional strength along the body, but the frame assembly would still have a weak point; it all meets at the bottom without any support. Struts... mine are aluminum 6061 tubing.
This is a bad picture of the rails on the 3.7i.
