I would strongly recommend Mike Sander's V4s from Quicksilver. I came from running ss Classe CAM-350s(a good choice as well if you favor solid state) making the move to tubes with the V4s and was really impressed, thinking I would never get tubes to push the 8s to perfection.I would stay away from sterile sounding ss, you will find yourself hastily and wrongly selling off the 8s. Tubes properly applied here are just wonderful.
Good luck with your pick.

Have you any knowledge or experience with the Quicksilver Silver Mono's? They are 90watts and I see a few of them around the $1100 range.

Sorry for the delayed response, I just don't get around this site as often as I use to. Yes, 90 watts, especially when it's real power like found in products from Quicksilver, will be enough if your room is average size and you don't plan on exceeding 90 decibels, which btw is loud! I remember an article by Noel keywood of Hi-Fi World 2010 where he claimed to run them easily with 20 watts from the Icon Audio MB845 tube amps and hitting 90dB in his listening room. Or on solid state using Musical Fidelity AMS50 Class A power amp. So the 90 coming from the QS should be just fine. If you call Bruce Thigpen of ET, he will also agree with this assertion in relationship to driving his 8s.
I have that same review from Hi-Fi World. Very usefull descriptions he uses. I love the part when describing the 8's as silent he says " If this sounds as useful to you as a chocolate tea pot, let me explain..". I think like you said that 90watts would be fine as I don't listen probably above 90db, although I have never used an SPL meter to verify, and my room is medium size, around 14x16. Thanks for you input.

I am familiar with the Quicksilver line; someone suggested them to me a few years back. They are a little out of my $$ right now , the V4's being around $2-4k. Any idea about the Rogue tube amps, either the Chronus Magnum integrated or just the tubed amplifier?
