I have Myestands on my 1.6s, but none so far on my 3.3s. I have heard Myestands and gunned MMGs and 1.6s.
To put the stands in context and separate out the Magnestand frame/stand vs crossover changes, I'll note some minor experiments that I did since I have no budget for either stand now.
I tried putting a stick between the top of my 3.3 to the wall behind it to simulate a better "stand". It helped noticeably, to me. I only removed those sticks since they really couple bass to the rest of the house.
In order to simulate the apparent damping (or absorbtion) of the magnet plate that the improved frame of Magnestand seems to provide, I have put a string around each speaker and then put a small stick pushed by the string into the magnet plate. This makes a really big difference.
My observations and impressions are in agreement with yours, that Myestands are quite worthwhile, and Magnestands do even more due to the re-framing. Since I actively bi-amp, I would not want the Magnestand crossover, but I would want the "stands".
Follow Ups:
You should consider either building your own wood frames or find a cabinet maker who would be willing to do the work. PG has sworn off making Magenstands for 3's and 20's for various reasons including being a PITA to ship (see his website). Actually John says he may give up Magnestand altogether by the end of this year. A local cabinet maker would probably be cheaper although the aesthetics might not approach John's work.
I am sitting here listening to Diane Krall (not exactly my favorite singer but her recordings are excellent) on my biamped IIIa's with DIY wood frames and I can honestly say the sound is as good as I would get live. Not the same as if she were singing in my living room but the same as a small night club with microphone.
Good idea. I suppose that the distance from ribbon to panel is not critical? Either way, it will be a while before I would get around to getting frames. Aesthetics are low on my priorites (there are many cables in the back of my system which are there for sound, not looks).
I did read the Magnestand update since you pointed it out.
