Call Magnepan and you can order the appropriate wire or foil. If panels are broken on one channel and the other is damaged but still functioning consider swapping both for the equivalent foil. The speakers sound better that way and the foil has a better chance to last longer.
If you can afford to, you can send the panels to magnepan for repair, their charges are reasonable, they can help you to obtain lower shipping costs and the work and service are impeccable.

Satie,
I know someone has gone over this before, but I can't find the link...
How are the double runs on the bass panels achieved with foil? And do you know exactly which foil sizes are used on the bass and mid panels of the Tympani IVa? From what I gather, although I may be mistaken, Magnepan does not like to give out information on modding the speaker since these are not stock wires.
IIRC, you lay the double runs on top of each other after a layer of adhesive is put on as insulation. But check on it. Roger Gustavsson and JLindborg are more likely to remember.
The foil you order is not the standard Tympani wire so you need to check out the spec for the foil you need by matching the gauge on the tympani to that of the mids on the other speakers with foil and order the spec for that. Again, RG and JL have recently had projects that required finding these things out, so lets ask them.
I would not advice foil on the Tympani IVa basses. First, the elasticity of the Mylar will be partly "shorted" by the foil and the tuning will be changed. That is not what is wanted on the basses. Second, I do not think Magnepan has any suitable foil for it, maybe the foil used on the basses of the 20.7, but I do not really know. The IVa basses have the same round wire as ID and IIIB, AWG 25.
The 3-series use a thicker wire, AWG 22. Same here, foil as used in the 3.7 can/will change the tuning of the bass driver.
The T-IVa midrange drivers can be converted to foil conductors, that is what I have just done. Use the thinnest foil from Magnepan, 0.0005"x0.1", the one they use in the 20-series midrange drivers. Even the midrange driver of the 3-series can use this foil.
Thanks
If we could find a very narrow foil conductor, 1.6x0.1 mm or so, it would be fine for the Tympanis too.
Perhaps one with a somewhat narrower footprint so that it leaves enough area for the mylar to stretch. Maybe 1 mm and 6 mils thick.
You are right. I first wrote 0.8x.2 mm but changed it... I Think you need to find the right thickness and then cut it to a desired width. It may be difficult to cut it to below 1 mm?
I am italian (I apologize for my poor english).
The aluminum wires are used by manufacturers of electric welding machines (to reduce weight).
you can ask them.
Greetings:
Francesco
