You might recall my room is large with open beam ceilings, tile floors, lots of floor-to-ceiling windows and up/down stairwell adding to the problem
My Maggie 3.5Rs couldn’t cut it, even when supported with a large SVS 500w BASH powered sub
I picked up a pair of Mark Shifter’s Diva lls, which sound quite good when the ports are stuffed and sub is used
So I put the 3.5s up for sale, but no takers
Taking a page from your using bass panels, and Maggies own bass panels ($1500/pr), one day I decided to see what running the bass panels with the Divas would do
Panels were ~ 3 ft behind and on the inside of the Divas
Best sound I had when employing the 3.5rs
One day I get a brain fart thinking...
What would the maggie bass sound like turned HORIZONTALLY?
O-M-G the sound stage, the effortless of the music. My friend says it sounds so continuous like I added an expen$ive dac

Just by looking at them, I think they have the potential of sounding better than when in their normal position. Now if it were only possible to raise them up from the floor such that their tweeters were at ear level, however understandably both unstable and unsightly.
I am only using the bass panels
HiOnFi,
Thanks, I was so overwhelmed by your picture that I failed at taking notice of the details. IAE, enjoy it!
That is a really smart use of the maggie with boundary reinforcement. You can get the same effect if your sidewalls are in sufficient proximity to the listening position or speakers. If you want to extend bass dynamics further and possibly win more extension try stuffing the gap between the frame and the floor with something to stop the dipole cancellation at that end of the speaker. The ribbon tweeter on the 3.5 is likely far better than the Diva boxes in its range of 2.5-3 khz and up. You can place the tweeter in a narrow frame and put it in front of the speaker and crossover it to the speaker with a line level XO, probably best to do it at 3.5 khz with a line level LR2 passive network. You just need to have a preamp with greater than 5V output. And an additional low power amp stable into 3 ohms. 20 watts class A should be plenty and give you the cleanest treble you have heard.

Thanks
I thought of removing the ribbons but $$$$ to explore
I want to get a Parasound P5 pre, which has bass management controls
and yes the ribbons would no doubt improve on the Divas, but they ain't bad
Swan speakers largely go unnoticed here in the States. Their complete product line is pretty impressive. Because of reviews I bought a set of Swan 2.1 SE Customs (2 way monitors) for my two channel theater system. For the $$ ($1050 including Swan stands made for these monitors) they really sound fine. For shits and giggles I move them into my main room from time to time and with a REL Storm II that combo is impressive, in a 2 way monitor kind of way. It's always fun switching out speakers .....
Cool
The best real monitor I had in this room was Reference 3A De Capos + 2 Sunfire subs. The DeCapos are giant killers
I a not running the bass on the Divas, so a quasi-monitor with built in stand
I really liked the Grand Veena for the crossoverless midrange and well matched bass. There is such a rightness to it, particularly on vinyl playback.
I am pretty much done with my own experiment with crossoverless midrange and sharp XOs on the bass (4th@ 200hz+time shift) and ribbon (5th @11khz). 1 and 1/2 decades.
it must be a bit of an obstacle course to use your door! Bet it does sound great though -
who have creativity, the space and the gumption to try the unorthodox setup! I'm sure you have a radically different experience using the horizontal bass panel application. I would guess it's quite striking in terms of sonics.
I have used the Daedalus Ulysses speakers (now for sale) in a Landscape Orientation, and similar to your experience, the radical adjustment to the sound is remarkable. Pay no attention to mockers or naysayers; they haven't tried it, and they often overweight the negatives of the alternative setup, dismissing its unusual strengths. My guess is you feel you've hit the jackpot in terms of low end presence for a rig without $50-100K speakers. :)
The good thing about your idea is that the additional (sub)woofers/panels would easily be fast enough to not occlude the mains. The additional bass information not coming from a cabinet might ease the contributions of box colorations.
I have no doubt it's like a DAC upgrade. Even better is if, like the Ulysses, the speakers have an attenuation adjustment switch for the treble. Then you can really dial it in. You would know as well, I'm sure, that you could use cables to do similar in terms of tonality achieved between the bass panels and mains.
Kudos on a good alternative system!
The greatest impediment to advancing an audiophile system is the audiophile.
Thanks
Thinking to rearrange where they are stacked directly behind the rack so I can use the front door
Of course I need to build a stand
