I have had a pair of Audio Sector chip amps on my ESL 63's. They sounded very good as long as you did not turn up the volume past a little above back ground levels.
Performance-wise, with the ESL 63's, they are not in the same universe as a slightly modified Quad 909.
Maybe...maybe in a very small room they would suffice...maybe.
Follow Ups:
Not sure how much better 909 are except in Bass, but I have reconditioned 57's that are excellent in my 14 x 20 + room and also in a small room 10 x 12
I used my PASS X250.5 in the large room and a Modded Dynaco ST70 in the small room
I dunno about 57's...have no experience with them, but 63's are a different breed, can take a good bit more power and play louder.
Based only on what I have READ about the 57's, I don't doubt that amps like the Audio Sectors could sound very good, indeed.
I habe the 63's in a small room now and my Nad c320 is working brilliantly with them- as it did with 57's. I have no idea how much power it gives out, I couldn't find anything in the manual. I will try my higher powered rotel in a while
