Mine failed after moving them from the listening room to the garage for the summer. Totally worth the repair cost. Electrostatic Solutions made it easy and worthwhile.

Send them in. Pay whatever it costs. Enjoy them for ten or twenty years.

Buy Accoustats!! I have bought at least ten pairs and all had no issues!!

I have never heard Accoustats, can you compare their sound to Quad 57's and 63's?
I have heard Quad ESL63 and I was totally impressed. They were fantastic speakers that have the nod as far as detail over the Acoustat. BUT, the Quads were much more delicate than the Acoustats. You get get to some ear splitting levels on the Acoustats that just cannot happen on the Quads before shutdown or damage...There are also tons of mods you can do to the Acoustat interfaces to get closer to the magic of the Quads as far as "presence". But the Quads cannot go as deep (actually, I have yet to hear any Full Range ESL - let alone very high end Soundlabs - that can go deeper than Acoustats on bass - 3 panels or more).
All in all, if they made Quads as indestructible as Acoustats, I (and many others) would just have them and be done. But simply not possible.

and they likely never will have issues. Jim Strickland's design of the panels is as close to indestructible as you are ever likely to find. The electronics are like any electronics ... they will need work eventually, but the panels you can forget about upkeep and maintenance on them.
I was under the impression that the "plastic" had degraded with age and had become brittle.
I certainly treat my spectra 22 very gingerly on account of this.

Some of the panels in my Monitor IV's are over 30 years old and although some of them are yellowed from age, they are not brittle in the least. The type of plastic they are made from will crack easily of you drop or bang them. It's pretty much the same egg-crate plastic they make diffusers for florescent light fixtures from, but don't see how normal handling would be detrimental.Edit: Just to add that you probably should treat them gingerly anyway. I know how bummed I'd be if something happened to mine.

Just need to clean up every few years as they operate as an electrostatic air cleaner. Especially by vents and windows.
But, yes, they are incredibly resilient. I am also a fan of Strickland's amp designs including Haffler and the variants from Audionics and Fosgate.
