From having heard 1.7s with a Magtech amp and from comments made by people who own Maggies and Magtech amps (having previously had other amps driving their maggies), a Magtech amp will drive 2-ways excellently (with passive XO).Not necessarily the ultimate sound ... but you'd have to pay multiples of the Magtech price to get anything that delivers a better sound.
For Maggie 3-ways, a pair of Magtech monos would be better than a stereo Magtech ... or actively bi-amp with 2 x stereo Magtechs.

Hi Andy,
My question was more of why doesn't Magenpan show their speakers with MagTech amps.
I have a MagTech and have used it with 3.6's and 20.1's. It keeps up with other more expensive amps that I have (with less cost, weight and heat).
The pairing appears to be Maggie owner pleaser, so why not pair the 2 at a show?

" why not pair the 2 at a show? "
I guess that takes effort and commitment from Magnepan to form a new relationship ... and a significant investment for the amp mfr, to make his amps available at a show?
So Magnepan stick with what they know.
Regards,
Andy
Or possibly Bryston contributes financially to the show costs.
I think the "if it's not broke we never fix it" explanation is the most likely one for everything.
Plus the high warranty and reliability of Brystons. They dont want to have a show ruined because of a bad amplifier.
In any case they want to stay friendly with dealers for the higher end models so any pairing will be one sold through dealers and not mail order direct.
why is not having an amp represented a dismissal of the maker? should Magnepan therefore have every high-end amp in existence powering their speakers?
thanks for interest.
