Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
65.49.68.176
Hi guys, just considering to have my firt maggies. My room dimension is quite limited, about 4m*6m, and speakers placed at the long side. Will the 3.7 be happy here? Or I have to choose 1.7?
Thanks
Victor

Go for the 3.7 , big difference in sound and quality ...
Regards,
behind you and in the rear corners, you will be fine...3.7's for sure...
The gang is right. On the short wall you are more likely to get the best results with either one of these Maggies. You'd have to budget at least 4ft of separation space behind them.
Of course, we are speaking in general terms. That room may well have other features that could change things. If you sketch it, including ceiling height and furnishings that "must remain", we may have more to contribute.
Also, we do have inmates using similar geometries to what you mention and getting great results. These darn speakers love to spread good sound if given half a decent chance.
Thanks, Ben. Now I know the difficulty and decide to change the setup to a parlor of 4.2m*6m. What do you think?
Well, it seems like a little more distance, which always helps. It should all work fine on the long wall if you put a little sweat into it. (We coach for peanuts : - )) and you do the speaker moving and the wall conditioning stuff if need be.)I wish we had a floor plan and an idea of the ceiling height but, barring any major "ugly" room features, I'd agree with Russ and Fin1bxn. Go for the 3.7 if you can. They really are worth the price difference and you should be able to enjoy it even if your driving gear is just half decent to start with.

Let me restate the situation for clarity... You are wondering about the effectiveness of Maggie three series in a situation where you have them set up on the long wall and where you will have about 12 feet to position yourself, and the speakers? Seems pretty tight for 1.7s as well as 3.7s.
Assuming you place them three feet out from the front wall (which is probably too close for most tastes, as four or more is usually preferred) and sit yourself two feet from the rear wall to reduce bass and reflection issues, you could probably just make either pair work. But it will be tight and probably less than optimal, to say the least.
Either pair would work much better, IMO, if you could fire them lengthwise in the room. At twelve feet wide and eighteen feet long you have just enough room for either pair. Indeed you probably have a good room for a Limage set up.
Thanks so much brother. Seems like I have to give up in this room. I have a parlor of 4.2m*6m, but a longside setup is required. Maybe this will serve them a little better?

Maggies rule....the listening room. You HAVE to put them where they need to be or pick a different loudspeaker. You'll be in the nearfield on the long wall but it will work. The 1.7 and the 3.7s need about the same amount of space, pick the 3.7s for the tweeter, it's worth it.
I agree with Swamis, my 3.7īs work great on the shortwall (firing down the length of the room) in a similarly sized room.
....also, on the long wall you would be too close to the speakers. IMHO, with large speakers it is important to create some distance.

Agree with both of the above. Especially the Limage setup
