Quite the same years of mine... I bought them used from a crazy guy that lets them connected all the day long to a transistor radio when he didn't listen... "to maintain a dynamic mylar" :)
And I can't hear a normal dynamic speaker, now ;)
About ten/eleven years ago one of them loose the tweeter, and in Italy no one known about the rapairing kits...so I put them in a cryogenic freezer :):):)
Now after years I convinced myself to open the capsule (containing the rest of the hifi, of course), maintaining the speakers (I hope), power amplifier, and using pc with a external usb dac.
The person who rebuild them (btw,I can do the rebuild by myself, absolutely, but I was so cared about the possibility of tearing the mylar in cleaning the glue...) offered me two (possibly) rebuilt Quad ESL 63, but I'm not convinced...
just seen the photo(s) on flicker... very beautiful. I've a d800 ;)
ps could you please tell me where to find infos about Dawnrazor's mod?

Marco,
Dawnrazor's mods are in the Tweaks asylum (link below).
My thread is here:

You'll have to copy and paste the link to my thread as I haven't figured out how to post two links in the same post.
Rockethead26, just a technical (possibly stupid) curiosity: the damping material on the metal panel is, I think (here in Italy, of course), high density neoprene with a metal foil; putting it on the metal panel of mg2b doesn't "compromise" a little bit the magnetic flux?
Marco
Not a stupid question at all. I really don't know the answer to that, but my guess would be that the rubber acts as its own insulator. All I know is that all changes to the sound coming from my MG-IIBs after the damping material was installed were improvements, both in detail, bottom end and sound stage.
Hi.
As I tought, the guy who rebuilt them used the wrong wire, he was sure that Timpany wire was the same... He suggest me that he can use normal copper wire with the correct section to have the same resistivity, but "may be heavy on the mylar"...
Now I'm trying to find an agreement with the italian distributor, but it is quite impossible to convince him to get the wire kit...
Does anybody know if Magnepan has a email address (I've seen that they have only a phone number, on the website, and my spoken english is not so fluent to sustain such a conversation ;), or where I can find the the wire only kit on internet?
Thanks in advance
Marco
Just call the number and they will steer you to where you can get one or send you a kit. The copper wire is a nono, don't do it it will dull the sound. There are a few knowledgeable folks on the forum in Europe and they might help- Lindborg, Gustavson and Davy (UK), ping them or write them a PM.

:( the italian Magnepan importer knows nothing about repairing kit, he spoke about mega coils of cable for repairing services...
I've tried a phone call to Magnepan, but they let me waiting (with music, not from a 20.7)for more than 5 minutes... than the line dropped.
I've tried with mails to service@magnepan.com and info@magnepan.com (found on another forum) but no answer...
Any help or suggestion (of course, another international call, a little bit expensive...)?
Thanks a lot
Marco
Unfortunately I don't have a better idea than calling them by phone.
You can try a cheaper online phone service and call on the PC. It is generally useful.
Thanks, I can try.
But it seems to me a nonsense not using mail, by Magnepan.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks!
