Short answer, no. Just a bit too wimpy.

Thank you for responding. Could anyone provide some basic guidelines on what kind of power would be required? The magnapan website seems to shy away from any specifics on this topic.
I'd be grateful for any opinions on what 5.1 set up costing less than $1000 would be a good match.
Cheers!
Like the gang says, this particular NAD won't do.
I have used (and sometimes still use) receivers for my MMGs. However, I always bought them with priority on audio quality features. So, the best deals may come from 2nd hand receivers with outdated video features but solid audio specs. I like some of the Denon AVR line, more so the older than the latest, in their "pure direct" audio mode.
The old AVR-3805 was a little beast and can be found used for low prices. My current 4306 is superb for a receiver, only bested by my bi-amping power amps. (The 4306 has actually fooled some visiting audiophiles at home.) Even my original "wimpy" AVR 2106 could kick some impressive sound and imaging. All these are capable of doing a special kind of bi-amping (not the built-in one) that I developed. They all can move surround speakers at the same time as the Maggies, which run at 4 ohms. Of these only the 4306 has HDMI (but not even 1.2, nor the latest).
Unfortunately, if you want the latest video & input bells and whistles in the receiver, the budget will be short for solid audio to be included. However, if you win the lotto, the Yamaha RX-A3040 can do Maggies, and has all the latest stuff, for <$2K. I've spent time with it driving other speakers. Yamaha did a terrific job on these.
Ask if you need further input.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to give me some feedback. I really appreciate the advice, though I admit it's a bit disappointing to hear. Those bigger AV receivers get out of my price range quickly.
It's also very hard to know what brands have become junky sellouts and what is high quality gear. Living in Montana, it's pretty hard to audition anything you can't get at best buy.
I'll follow up on some of these suggestions. Thanks again!
Zdog, I know it is a challenge. Still, finding the right mix of features at the right price can be most fun when resources are limited. Like Slapshot, I got into the MMGs (and back into audio) with tight resources. The fun is not over yet.
If you are intent on doing this, keep searching. Check with us as many times as you need to. Some of us are available via email also. As long as you are doing your end of the effort (searching and learning), many here will be most supportive.
One other thing may be of importance at this stage. What type of room -- and location within -- will the Maggies "see"? I'll leave it to others to expand on it but, believe me, this could make a whale of a difference. Feel free to add a sketch.
Thanks JBen!
I don't think you want to hear about my room setup...I won't have any dedicated area, and the Magnepans (if I get them) will have to "blend" into my living room. Hardwood floors, furniture...worst case scenario.
I will keep looking into amp/HT options. I suspect that using more moderately powered receiver with my 130W Rotel amp to drive the fronts, I could get some good sound out the Maggie's, and maybe power the ML scenarios as rear speakers.
I have always been a stereo nerd, but don't really understand a lot of the finer points, so it's fun learning.
Anyways, thanks again. I'll check back when I get something set up.
cheers!
LOL! My point, exactly. The minute you mentioned 5.1, I figured you would likely not have a dedicated room for audio. I have the same situation, and so do many here. The HT system requirements may throw a monkey wrench, or not. It may actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise in some cases. It certainly was my case, after I found ways to take advantage of it.Yes, if you can keep the Rotel for the MMG, you would be fine. I thought you had to sell it. I have heard some low-powered Rotel amps driving MMGs in less-than-ideal room situations and still managing to create a soundstage. With 130w/ch at 8ohms, a Rotel's beefy power supply could help to make the MMGs deliver some very, very decent goodies.
