Should do ok, you could use more power.
Just make sure the caps in the amp are ok. At its age it should either have had most caps replaced or will need it in the near future - so be sure there are no signs of impending failure of the caps.

So an update.
As I posted, I picked up a Dynaco St400. After cleaning it up and such I hooked up the Maggies. They sounded all muted and tinny but both the same. Low and behold, the fuses on the back at the speaker terminals were shot. Corroded and gunked up. Replaced them with new 1.5 amp fuses, hooked them back up and bang, they worked. Sounded very good, even with my amp only connected directly to a CD player for now.
I then added in my Janis subwoofer to pick up the lows and it sounded even better as you all probably figure they would.
I pushed them a bit and turned up the volume and they performed well. After a little time one speaker went out. Blew the fuse (1 amp) in the front panel of the amp. Replaced it and it works again, but it does not sound as good as the other speaker. A little muted and tinny in comparison. (yes I switched channels/wires etc)
I am wondering if the crossover/caps etc are in need of replacement. I guess it's time to get inside and take a look?
Any other thoughts from the wise and experienced within the treehouse?
Check your midrange fuse on the speaker that sounds tinny.
Did you confirm that it was the speaker that sounds tinny rather than the one channel on the amp?
I am not a fan of the Dyna400 it isn't really a high current amp and maggies are a difficult load for it if played hard.
On top of this thread I read MGIIA. It has no midrange fuse.
You are right. I had a 3.x in mind.
Ended up going with A Dynaco 400.
