Well I attached the stands and hooked them up to my old Pioneer SX737 for a quick listen. The good thing is they work! The bad may be, and I am not sure because I don't know what I am talking about yet, but they sound muffled or baffled is the best way I can describe it. Maybe one you know what that might translate to.
Time for some research I guess. Plus, remove the sock and see what lies under.

There are a few things that could cause the initial deficient sound. At least you are getting some sounds. (Is it the same character from each Maggie?( Try swapping the channels out of the Pioneer, just in case.)
I do agree with you...take them socks off and let's have a look. There are a few reasons for this, which includes checking out a long-stored pair of Mylar sheets and associated trace wires.
One other reason is that you might as well get familiar with the innards of the Maggies because...
...the darn bi-amping crowd here is already beginning to preach their rotten gospel!
...LOL, a gospel which I also spread, to which I've adhered even before I got my MMGs, and which makes them sound like a million.
But first, let's check out and fix the basics...THEN we have enough in store for you to start the real fun!
Agreed JBen. Probably time to peek inside.
Each speaker sounds the same, which is why I question source power issues. Or, bad caps? Odd otherwise.
Once I get my integrated amp back, I will be also using my Janis sub. It pulls out the low frequencies so I should be good until I want to step up to biamping or whatever increased power option I can justify.
