They look pretty groovy. I'd love to hear a pair.
I remember hearing a set of the original ones in 1977 - wonderful.

Obviously a subjective call. I only heard the ones at the Chicago Axpona this spring.
What I heard was way too bright and small. The sound came from knee cap level. For some reason the exhibitor put on the band Chicago. It was so shrill and piercing I made a face and started walking out. He saw me, offered to put on something else, but it too was shrill and tiny and low to the floor.
The Axpona exhibits were almost universally horrendous sounding. Five hundred thousand dollar systems with boomy bass and zero imaging and soundstaging. Anyone who doubted the sanity of the high end would have ammunition to support their intuitions after attending this show.
One of the few exceptions at the show was the Kings. Awesome midrange!! Definitely better than my Maggies.
I assume a better room, better set up and some kind of stand could have helped the JanZen sound better.
I'm not sure why but I agree that I heard very little sounding at their best at Axpona. M3 Lover and I will attest that setting these up in the right setting takes some time but once dialed in they are pretty special.

you are asking about the zA1.1 since the zA2.1 has been out more than a year and a half.
I looked forward to hearing the zA1.1 at THE Show Newport, as well as the zA2.1 driven by the new AVA hybrid amp. But unfortunately I was hit by a flu virus and had to cancel at the last minute.
I too was impressed by the Janszen hybrid speakers in the late '70s. I believe there were three models, adding the number of electrostatic panels and increasing the size of the dynamic woofer.
