I may have missed it... But what happens to the image size in this setup? Is it still realistic or does the size and presentation of either a vocal or instrument get really large? You have probably heard the 'and the vocal sounded like the size of a refrigerator ' type of comment. Does this setup create that - or do you still get a real image size that has more depth and is not focused to the speaker? Thanks. Tim
Follow Ups:
The room acts like a lens when it couples with the outside wall...with the right recording, my speakers will disappear to about 95%, coherence gives the illusion of single driver "stereo" presentation...
The soundstage inflates without image exaggeration, that is what is so puzzling...focus of the contents making up the recorded event...every element is an exacting honest look at what was laid down in the music making process...the center image is strong, but not beaming...working your way to the edges there appears to be more depth and room around everything...the other puzzling thing, tone and texture of the instruments improves...
I have described in my room, tweeters out, HK/Limage "type" location, soundstage and imaging way outside the walls, with an exaggerated image size and very atmospheric presentation, cool...just not as musical or honest...I do understand how some would like that sound...I did with my 1.6's, but the 3.7's don't need that type of expansion to fill the room with music...
What this post speaks to IMHO, that after a few weeks of listening to this set-up...you start to put your Audiophile ears away...and connect with the emotional spine of the music, not realizing you are just enjoying the music...damn that sounds good...the goose bump meter and getting pulled in to what is playing...is my current yard stick...
If you have a rectangle type scenario for a room, it is worth a try, if you can make it work with the décor...it is just moving speakers...is my mantra...you can always move them back...I just did, to Sadie's original location we came up with back in September of last year...2 days ago I went back to that and perpendicular, things just snapped into place...nice...
good luck
Thanks
Mark
Thanks mark. Nice description. I am in the process of 'noodling' a room. I have a complete open space and will be building walls. So I can do with it as I please.
Very cool...a clean slate, what an opportunity, you will be the envy of many of us inmates...
I am a very mendable audiophile, willing to try different things and letting of many of my preconceived notions NOT limit the possibilities until I hear the differences...
Please keep us abreast of your journey of a new listening room...
Exciting stuff...
thanks again
Mark
