You can also do it by feeding stereo into an additional SS preamp known for good bass performance and having a mono switch or use the y connectors on the outputs ( ask first if the particular model can do it and does not end up having the two channels drive each other, it is usually ok).

Yeah, that would be the equivalent of the active summer that I suggested.....but just a horribly more complicated version. :)
An active circuit that sums to a virtual ground point would provide a true L+R signal (for woofer feed) but leave the existing Left/Right main signal unaffected with no degraded separation. A circuit similar to this can be found in some of the better sub-woofer amplifiers.
Dave.
The point is that he does not need to know what he is doing but has an off the rack item he can just plug in. Besides, audiophiles often have old equipment hanging around and having a spare preamp is rarely a bad idea.
Not many are actually comfortable handling a soldering iron.
Why do you make everything more complicated than it needs to be? :)
The initial solution I suggested was three female RCA connectors and two resistors. It doesn't get any simpler than that. A couple of bucks at Radio Shack. xfiler91158's profile says he's a test technician. Even if not comfortable handling a soldering iron, I assume he has a co-worker who is. :)
Dave.
