I say they would, in fact I'd say they'd work in in a 12x12 room but I wouldn't go below that.
Follow Ups:
I must disagree with Green Lantern. No disrespect intended, but you could place a pair of Duetta Sigs in a large closet as well, as long as you didn't care how they sound.
Having owned many pairs of Apogees over the years I will advise you that IMO your room is minimally sized for these speakers. Even if you place them along the long wall as suggested, by the time you place them far enough out into the room and pull your seating forward from the rear wall, you will effectively be in a nearfield listening position. Apogee planars will work in that position, but the you will only be directly hearing the part of the planar driver directly level with your ears. Also, these speakers are well-known for their limited "sweet spot", and without a decent distance between the speakers and your listening position the small spot is going to become positively tiny. Trust me on this.
Finally, these speakers will pump some serious energy into the room, so unless you are going to play at very low listening levels (and them why bother?) I predict that you are going to have lots of room issues.
If you want the APogee sound for a room of your size my suggestion would be to look for a pair of the smaller hybrid ribbons; the Centaur Minor, Stage 6, or the Cepheus 6 (if you can find a pair).
Good luck,
that's also good info to boot. They are big (although not Maggie big), and they do well with lots of room to breathe but I'm just thinking man, if you can get a hold of a used pair in good working condition in the $1800 range, I'd still have to give em' a thumbs up in a 12x12 room...they're just that good.
Plus a hidden bonus would be the ability to run fairly moderate tube amps on them; perhaps even a pair of MC60s
Now granted, I wouldn't recommend a comparable speaker today in the 5 figure range (ie the Analysis Audio planars) for a room that size.
I have a spare bedroom that's 12x13 I've been meaning to set mine up in but haven't gotten around to it (not to mention we've had out of town guest visiting recently). The room was intentionally meant to be for my 5 y/o grand-daughter but whenever she spends the night she usually ends up sleeping with my wife in our bed anyway so....
