You should not be painting the driver.
The metal frame edge and pole piece can be painted with satin black krylon spray paint. Use that not rustoleum because it takes forever to cure. If you spray the pole piece do so at a slight angle so the paint doesn't fly directly thru the holes, and apply lightly. If you spray the frame edge use card stock to prevent overspray from landing on the mylar.

Suspected the low angle was necessary and was going to do that just in case anyway.

When in doubt, do nothing! What do you want to paint? There are no exposed metal parts.

The actual 1.6QR driver panel: mylar & wires on one side; cross braces, drilled holes, buttons & various paper towel on the other. It's the side with the drilled holes & cross brace that needs touch up. It's visible going into a wooden Gunn-style frame with the cross-brace side facing forward. The paint is obviously sprayed on. Wondering what paint is safe to use.

I wouldn't spray any paint if there is the slightest chance it was fall on the mylar or the wires.

I'm not sure what it is that your painting. You would need to fully mask any portions of the drivers.
At any rate, I've used a lot of spray paint on the boy's pine-wood derby cars and really like the Duplicolor DS series of automotive paint. Excellent results and very fast drying. They are availabe in 4 oz cans.

I need to know what panel you are referring to. I just completed a rebuild so I probably can help if you give specifics. As far as I know there is no exposed metal on any stock Magneplanar other than the nameplate and the stands.
