off WD from MN?
"You don't have to be faster than the lion....
just the guy running next to you.." -anonymous
As soon as he posted he started getting request, then being told about rules. He tried to use the forum to gather advice (And got some), but he then got all the rest of what we had to offer. For me I see guys hawking their products on here all the time and no one gives some of them a hard time at all. they also offer lots of the free advice. Maybe if WD was given the same courtesy, he might be a participating part of the group and be able to help others too. We sometimes take fro granted how useful these forums are and someone new might not know.
getting consumer input from us , rather than answering questions and giving advice! That's the impression I got, anyway, after reading all his posts.
Regards,
Andy
OK, well if that's the case.
Don't change it but make it better without increasing the cost.
Happy now?
.
.
However, this has been a fascinating "conversation" IMO. :-)) I never fail to be amazed by folk who cannot bear to be explicit ... who hoard information because, to them, knowledge is power ! So extracting information from them is like extracting teeth! LOL!!
Regards,
Andy
Only quality insults are allowed here.
You must check where the poster is from. If they are from east of the Mississippi and south of the Mason Dixon line, like this guy, you must use the term "Johnny Reb" instead.
Calling him a yanqui is like him calling you a dumb kiwi bastard. Everybody knows you're not a kiwi.
:^ )
It's all about the music...
Andy used the Yanqui "hispanic" spelling, used for all gringos north of the Alamo and/or the Rio Grande.
Also, his being a citizen of the realm, even "Yankee" can be construed as any inhabitent from sea to shining sea near the amber waves of grain.
;D
Actually, wrt " dumb kiwi bastard " ... the middle word by itself is sufficient (it implies the other two! :-)) ).
Regards from godzown,
Andy
I think you're pretty close to the Mason Dixon line at this point yourself, Peter.
:-)
As it is I'm almost 2 hours away from Maryland which was a border state which did not secede. I'm a lot further from Vir'ginny so that makes me a confirmed blue coat.
Further proof:
I have no appliances on my front porch.
There is not a car on cinder blocks in my yard.
My screen door does not have tape on it.
I don't even own a screen door.
I don't know any of my relatives "intimately".
I still am not sure exactly what "grits" are,
nor have I ever eaten them.
Now Redwood on the other hand.... he might say yes to a few of those....
:^ )
It's all about the music...
You neeed to try grits.
They are basically cornmeal and butter.
Right tasty with some greens and hog parts.
We can get liqoured up after supper and either shoot beer bottles offen the back fence with our .45s or go cruising for pussy.
Or we could just listen to tunes.
But grits is an option, putting cheese in them is popular.
... but I already own 2 cats.
It's all about the music...

Not at all, I thought I said it well when I said that WD wasn't likely in a position to make product better and cheaper than he does. To say that I'd LIKE him to almost goes without saying.
By the way, the term Yanqui is inexact. I'm actually a Virginian.
:-)
Virginian, Schmerginian ... !! :-)) I use the term "Yanqui" when I want to wind you people up!
I would love it if someone from Magnepan actively contributed to the Planar Asylum but it would seem, unfortunately, the folk who make the speakers we love ... aren't interested in establishing the kind of rapport that, say, Linn have established with their TT customer base.
Regards,
Andy
Yes, I agree. But if they don't have the time it's understandable, I'd rather they concentrate on doing the best job they can with manufacturing.
Obviously their product line is successful. I'm not a marketing genius but I am smart enough to know not to try to fix something that isn't broken.
Yes, their product line has been successful - and they are a) still in business and b) will repair/refurbish 30-yr old models. Which is exemplary! :-))But Magnepan have never in the past contributed to the Planar Asylum - so why the contact now? Could it be that the GFC has affected their sales more than they would like and would've believed? So they come to us Planar inmates - as we are an identified, pro-Magnepan user base - to seek information which might help them survive?
But that's simply "taking" ... surely if they "gave" (ie. answers to us) as well, they'd receive better information?
Regards,
Andy
PS: And BTW - who's Mr Phelps? The guy wot offers Tom Cruise the assignments he can choose (or not - yeah, right! :-)) ) to accept?

The totality of the 'membership' at the PA represent such a miniscule fraction of Magneplanar + potential Magneplanar owners that we aren't worth their time and bother.
Well.we're an identified group. Certainly familiar with the speakers.
Not so unified on opinion, though, I'd say we have some diverse viewpoints. What Magnepan will get as opposed to what the owners will say is not exactly the same thing.
This is good, maybe I get a different result from Andy but it isn't any less valid because our methodologies are similar.
It's more important that the company makes it the same way every time and thus create a reference. That way we can discuss this with a common frame and not talk at cross purposes.
.
Mr. Phelps was the new Mr. Harris, but you knew that, Number 6.
I'm not prepared to speculate as to why Magnepan might want our opinion, it seems to me that people here are going to give it regardless of whether or not it's solicited!
How hard is it to register. I have no idea how influential this forum or for that matter my opinion may be, but WD is a rock star in the planar world. Not as big as JW, but certainly right up there.
So give him a break. He doesn't have to post here, and frankly I'm surprised that he did in the first place.
We can at least be sure that he READS this, this forum, so perhaps that is better than nothing.
Musta' been lookin' fer answers...

"dammit"
I had a conversation with Wendell last week about my recently repaired 3.6's and the conversation did turn around to this forum.
He did indicate he wanted to comply and even login. But he didn't want his email address as his "handle". I told him he could change it once he logged in. He tried to log in to change it twice while we were on the phone and failed.
I think he's not posting because he's obeying the rules... can't login, can't post.
I had the exact same problem and ended up changing it unwillingly.
Hey You are right
Once he logs in...maybe he forgot the password or something and could start over...he can change the moniker:

I can see how the registration process would make one believe that ones e-mail will be used.
But if he clicks on any post and at the top right there will be a "login" button. If he logs in there, then he should be able to change his moniker.
And if that doesn't work, I am sure if he sends Mart a nice e-mail, then Mart would probably fix it.
.
Good job. Just because someone has spent 30 years helping to run the most important Planar speaker company in history doesn't mean he can FORGET TO SIGN IN! No SiRREE, We Put Him In His PLACE, didn't we.
The forum police can be proud today.
No manufacturer should be posting advertisements or links to reviews.
I thought we were nice pointing that out and not complaining to mart to have the post removed. AFIAK the post is still there.
But I guess you are saying that he should have special treatment because the company he represents is so good?
What criterion do you use to police who gets to follow the rules and who doesnt have to? Number of years the company has been in business? If you like them? If you own their gear?
Maybe we shouldnt have been so hard on that French guy who plugged his company and spouted on and on about how maggies magnetic structure was inferior to those in his speakers, etc.
Did his posts get deleted because he was French or just because he had to follow the rules?
Maybe we should post a mbnxo1 list of approved manufacturers for rule breaking or a list for those who mbnxo1 deems have to follow them! Please let us know what those lists would look like.
And I wouldnt worry about Wendell. I am betting that he is ALL for following the rules.
You can tell a new guy nicely about how things work.Or you can be an arrogant prick.
I see what your choice is.
What a big man you are in this forum.
I detest bullies.

Talk about a massive overreaction-there may be people who deserve that post, but DR isn't one of them. He has never professed to be one of the 'big men' on this forum. What he has been is universally helpful to anyone and everyone, including me when I first came here, and he's been consistently civil, including to you in his post above. To me, that's the antithesis of being a 'bully'-unlike, say, someone who calls another poster "an arrogant prick" because of a disagreement.

"dammit"
DR'z definetly da man!;
I was just wondering if WD was just 'testing the waters' 'round these parts; or was this simply a 'drive by' on the information highway.
I look forward to the day he (or any other spokesperson from WB Lake) contributes to this grand forum and/or would love to see the vision on his own site come to fruition.
HAPPY 4TH TO YOU ALL!

Gl,
Thanks. But I have to tell you if you asked me to run slower, I doubt I would! :)
Happy 4th!
Thanks Power,
LOL. I appreciate the kind words.
I for one WANT Wendell to post here and would love a dialogue with magnepan. I think some lose that in my "arrogance" and my goody goody rules following.
Such is the internet.
YOu try Al's choke tweak yet?
check your facts before opening your mouth.

Hey Opus,
Glad to hear that I am not the only one who thought we were nice to Wendell.
Compared the guy from Infra Planar wendell is getting the red carpet treatment. But IIRC he couldn't seem to understand the forum rules...
the same rules that PG, Grant and other mfgrs willingly follow, that's all. Having a semi-official Magnepan presence here can only help.

I for one had no interest in what he had to say. Bloggers are always more informative.
