I've dicked around with my 1.6 QR's a long time, trying to fix one buzz or another. Yes, many of them were from the common problem of loose wires. But sometimes my soldermizing ™ repairs did not seem to work. i finally noted that as shipped, Maggies have (on the rear) areas of adhesive plastic. These are, so I read, to "tune" each speaker so that it will not have identical resonances to its partner. I removed them, since I'm buggering up the speakers, why not go all-out? I'd noted, using sine waves test, that i could reduce or eliminate buzzes many times, but putting a palm at rear of the speaker, certain areas (in my case, just below the top "donut"). So tonight, I applied selected areas of "Duck" tape (transparent), and have greatly reduced buzzes at about 50-60 Hz and 92 Hz. I don't recall seeing this as a buzz fix yet in the asylum, so I'll stroke my own ego and say I discovered it (never minding the fact that Magnepan does it at the factory.) Could this fix be a variation of the break in period, where the resonances may well change as the speaker ages? heck, works for me any way ..."Silence is golden; duct tape is silver."

If you have not already done so, also ensure the the "tension" or "tuning" buttons are tightened snuggly. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN as you can strip the hole. If that happens you'll need to insert a thicker screw.
Loose buttons can cause buzzing, someetimes very severe buzzing, at lower frquencies. Be careful not to stab or rip the Mylar. As you tighten the screws, the buttons will tend to turn in the dame direction putting stress on the Mylar which could cause a tear. Hold the button with the thumb and forefinger of one hand while tightening GENTLEY.
While the buzzing you observed may not be caused but the buttons, at least you should eliminate them as the cause. You can also experiment by pushing your finger firmly on the button and listen to a musical selection which causes buzzing to determine if the button is the cause.
Maggies, because you can never be too thin!
