compared to having no bed in the room.. but I think it's no worse than it was in the original arrangement, which was a bit light in the bottom end.
Before: Maggies in corners
Now: Maggies still 5ft out from wall
I think I can move then back about a foot to give them breathing space in front and still have plenty of space to the back wall. Right now there is exactly two feet of space between the bed and the speakers which is about 7" more space than before... and if you draw a line from the corner of each bed it actually would run between the maggies.
The only other thing is the bed is much higher than my chair was.
gains: breathing room for maggies, soundstage depth and width, that '3D' effect and maggies disappear more than before. I can lay on my stomach with my head at the foot of the bed for awesome super nearfield listening.
losses: well.. I can't really tell. I don't remember what it sounded like with the bed in the original location. Listening height too high puts me in a bass null I think. Bed possibly absorbing some frequencies.
You mean they are 5 ft. from the wall in that picture? If so, the camera is playing some serious tricks.
3 ft exactly from the sidewall.
to lose the box spring, or better yet go Scandinavian(ie platform bed - as they are low to the floor); they are extremely comfortable, good for your back and very stylish to boot. Would be a nice accessory to the 1.6s, you could match the colors! Think about it...it's a win/win. :)
1. the bedspread may be the culprit in robbing some of your depth
2. if possible, try long wall setup
3. change the wall color from 'pink' to black
otherwise I'm sure it still sounds fantastic!
p.s. where did you get the cable lifters.
ps,ps., just kiddin' on the paint ;)
1: it's a square room.. there is no long wall.
2: it's actually more like a peach color... and since I'm a girl, I'm keeping it :)
lol; I knew you were a lady; I'm just jealous my room doesn't look as great as yours!
Do you have a source on the cable lifters?
It is hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like windows are behind the speakers.
If that is so, and they can be opened without offending the neighbors too greatly, then you may be able to move the speakers back and get some of the openess and 3d imaging you are getting now, with the windows OPEN.
At least this was what my MMGs did in a similiar situation (the windows were a bit lower than your picture i think). It was the best sound in that room, even thought the speakers were 5ft out from the wall. Opening the window as much as possible was like dragging the speakers from 2 ft out to 5ft out.
Might be worth a try.
