There are just two screws holding the plates on. I could get security screws which look like a very good idea. Anything else? Maybe a compound adhesive that would take a long chisel and hammer? Gluing the threads so that a hammer driver is needed?? Rear plate is not on the trunk lid. I don't want this to happen again. Like 1.5 to two hours wait at the nearest DMV. Thanks, Tweaker

1.5-2 hr. waite at your DMV ? I'm sorry.
Three weeks ago I went in to renew my drivers license, in & out in 20 min. Two days ago titling & registering new (used) car. 15 min..;,)\
+100.-+Some times you hit them good, sometimes not so much. Though through the years, I don't remember waiting more than 45 min.

I use them. Any automotive store should carry them. Then fill in the head with some polyurethane goop. Too much hassle for the crook, but you can get the stuff off with a small tool if needed.
Had my plates stolen once.
PS make CERTAIN the 'stolen' report is filled out at a cop shop. Demand a receipt. Otherwise two years from now you may get your license revoked AND a $12,589.44 bill from somebody 'cuz your stolen plates were on a car someplace, acquiring tickets galore. (and guess what, you will have a HELL of a time not paying. Think a few hours is bad.. Just wait! Months trying to not pay..)
I have to have front plates also. I place my front plate on the passenger visor. Hanging tied to visor. One thing here front plate law reads:" must be visible from front" not the plate has to BE on the front. Your law may vary.
Good advise 5. I already got the security screws. Filling them in and keeping a record of the police report is excellent advice. Ah, something else to worry about. What exactly did you fill them in with? Did you get it straightened out ? Thanks, T456

I had those security hex screws you described on my front license plate mounted toll transducer. The device fit across the top portion of the plate with holes in it to secure the transducer and the plate. But I didn't mount the plate, just the transducer.
Last time I checked it's a $75 fix-it fine for not having a front plate. I've been here 20 years now and have never been cited. Knock on wood.
The toll system has since gone to small thin inside-the-windshield stickers with RFID chip in it. We no longer need the bulky plate mounted device.
Back in 1998 on my then new Ford Contour SVT I placed my front plate up on the windshield snug to the passenger side to the mirror mount. (actually cut a little notch in the corner to hold it up on the mount) 13 years, 110,000 miles, a few speeding tickets.. never a question from a cop about my front plate.
Next car I painted the front plate all black except the letters numbers with a thin outline, and left it on the front. (since the car had a black plastic center part, it blended in cool like) Three years, never a question.
Another new car...
My current plate up on the passenger visor, two years plus. no problem.
Like I mentioned, here, the law is written 'visible to the front', and not must be ON front.
Makes a difference.
