The band, not the Broadway musical. They came to the San Jose City National Civic, a smaller, 2,800-seat venue. I'm used to seeing them, when they play stadia. For my 10-year-old son, this was his first non-kids concert. We were seated to the left (as you're facing the stage), 12 rows deep. Chicago now have a new bassist, Jeff Coffey. He replaces Jason Scheff, who had been with the band, since Peter Cetera left in 1985. In addition to Coffey, Chicago have 8 others: 2 keyboard players, 1 drummer, 1 percussionist, a guitarist, and 3 horns (usually trumpet, trombone, and sax).
Now, we (my friends and I) usually go to heavy metal or dance concerts. Chicago are different, because of their 3 horn players. Not only do the horns add flavor to songs like "Old Days" and "Saturday In The Park," they add to the jams. Perhaps because of the smaller venue, the Diane Warren-penned "Look Away" was much more effective, than we we've seen Chicago at stadia. Prog rock drummer Tris Imboden really gives you a different take on the songs, versus the studio recordings. He plays with a bite and pop, which cut through the mix. We typically don't experience this type of playing, outside of the more sophisticated heavy metal bands.
Most of the members are in their 60s and 70s. Yet, they are in fine form. If you don't catch them on this tour, don't worry; Chicago will be doing the summer stadia thing with the Doobie Brothers.

I saw them both for the first time on Dick Clark's Rockin New Years Eve back in '74. Been a fan of both ever since.
They make a good pair for a concert. Many Doobie tunes have horns and although they have a mighty fine sax player (Marc Russo), when the Chicago horns get behind them its much like when The Tower of Power played with Little Feat. Very cool.
I'm looking forward to seeing them.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
...I'll be seeing them with the Doobie Brothers in June at the Concord Pavillion.I've seen Chicago 3 times over the past decade - twice with Earth, Wind and Fire and once by themselves.
They always put on a good show but with a second band, both come out together at the end and take turns playing each other's hits.
> ...sophisticated heavy metal bands.>
Is that an oxymoron?
