My brother and I chose not to renew them for this season-I wise choice, in retrospect. The downtown stadium proposition was a sham, as reported by local media today. Spanos is being allowed the deduct the cost of the stadium prop from his relocation fee. He never had any attention of keeping the team here, and allowed the fan base to spend an entire season thinking there was a glimmer of hope when all along he knew he was moving to LA-Goodell and the rest of the viper's nest that is the NFL ownership insisted on forestalling the move for a season to allow the Rams to reestablish their presence.
He is scum, a reprehensible individual. I'm done with the NFL.
Follow Ups:
I just now read the SD Union article. They are a little pissed, but you can understand that. I get the feeling they are right, though. Spanos 'negotiated' to kill time.
If any team wants to come to SD, it'll be with EQUITY in the team as part of the deal.
Too much is never enough
... know any good SoCal movers? Just read an article where the Chargers are having a hard time finding movers to help them transition from San Diego to Carson. They might have to resort to getting moving vans from Spanos's Stockton home town. BTW, here in Sactown, we got that Golden One Centre deal forced upon us. A Federal judge made damn sure it didn't make it onto the ballot a second time. 2008's downtown arena proposal, when the Maloofs still owned the team, went down in flames. Just like your Measure C. So we're on the hook for $20 million-a-year for God knows how long. A parting gift from former mayor Kevin Johnson.
