Be CAREFUL with those 'specific request's. Some are actually A TRICK to see if you are paying attention.

Usually, its some veiled message, spoken WAY BEFORE birthdays, anniversaries, or XMAS. That need special deciphering.
For example, you are watching TV. A commercial for some crazy item comes on. She says, "hmmm."
I think, "must remember the crazy item attached to the 'hmm,' for her birthday."

I've got it easy. Wife only wants to travel. So if I get a trip or some such, I'm OK.
No jewelry, watches, or Kitchen Stuff is allowed.
Disadvantage? Wedding / HER Birthday and Christmas are ALL within 4 weeks.

One year I gave her a good quality spinning rod and lures. She was happy as a clam. She's an artist (paint and sculpture, although she's also learning weaving), so the cords were attached to a Merlin carving system and a sharpening setup for her carving chisels.
And she also loves to travel. Jewelry is fine, but I'll never go awry with a surprise trip.
For her birthday one year, I bought MYSELF a bread machine. I use it for making pizza crust and on holidays.
