this possible flea market find:
The Atomic Energy Laboratory
Biggest issue: Contained real radioactive materials to play with. Six years after the first atom bomb killed 80,000 Japanese people instantly, the U-238 Atomic Energy Lab was released. The "children's toy" set included Uranium-bearing ore samples and other real radioactive materials. Unsurprisingly, parents didn't want their children playing with a radioactive toy and it was discontinued a year after its release.

Some kid would break a thermometer in the school yard and we would all pick up drops and roll coins in it in the palms of our hands. Pennies looked like brand new silver pennies until they oxidized in our pockets.

I want one! I'm glad that you posted this early enough (before Christmas) so I can put my wife in a search mode for this years present.
I'm not at all worried about this toy emitting excess radioactivity. Years ago I worked at a Uranium mine owned by Atlas Minerals Corp. and I'm not glowing in the dark (yet).
I'm kinda interested in AC Gilbert's old products. When I was a kid I had a really nice American Flyer train layout and also one of the largest Erector Sets that were available at the time. Then I discovered girls.
Now that I've been happily married for almost forty years I'm regressing to my childhood days ;-)
I remember how hairy a spider's leg looked when I was a kid, but it never did squat for stylus magnification when the hi-fi bug bit me some years later.
and a happy marriage!
Congrats!

That makes playing with a BB gun look like, well child's play.

I also have a Daisy Red Ryder Carbine! But mine lacks "the compass in the stock and the thing which tells the time".
Ya know, the one that little Ralphies mom says "you'll shoot your eye out".
Haven't shot any eyes out yet;-)
