I use honey in my coffee every morning. Apparently you have to consume 14 tablespoons of honey sourced from mountain laurel so I'm probably OK. I buy locally produced honey. We have mountain laurel in my area, so I hope I'm ok. Maybe I should go back to sugar or sweetener.
Very little honey is exclusively made from Mountain Laurel. Its flowers bloom in late May early June here. So honey would have to be harvested right after likely from very mountainous areas where there is no grasses with clover and other sources like honeysuckle etc. In Appalachia there is Rhododendron that flowers earlier than the Laurel but not much else, the deer have wiped it out.

At least in Western North Cackalackie because we're so heavily forested there's very little forage.
It doesnt. You think toxins affect every living thing the same? LOL! Mongoose and snake venom among many many examples.

...from Wikipedia:
"Accidental intoxication of humans by mad honey has been well documented by several Classical authors, notably Xenophon, while the deliberate use of such honey as a medicine and intoxicant (even hallucinogen) is still practiced by the Gurung tribe of Nepal, who have a long tradition of hazardous cliff-climbing to wrest the precious commodity from the nests of Apis dorsata laboriosa, the giant Himalayan honeybee." (emphasis mine).
Same article mentions ethanol as another potential honey toxin. Guess it all depends on your definition of "toxic".
And then there's this from another Wiki article on honey in general:
"People who have a weakened immune system should not eat honey because of the risk of bacterial or fungal infection. .
And infants are at risk of botulism from ANY honey consumption. Yoiks!
Personally, I'm much more concerned about the pesticides in honey and other nearly unavoidable toxic crap in we've dumped into the environment. And after all that, I think I'll still be enjoying honey, in moderation of course.
Thanks for the "can you believe this" moment.
about where they have been? I've never heard of this.
Well not here, at the link below
